Digital City Project

The Digital City Project will give everyone in Beech Grove - residents, businesses and visitors - high-speed, wireless Internet access, and create statewide and national attention for our great city! It will be yet another obvious reason for people to want to live and work in Beech Grove!

Have you thought about putting cable tv, wi-fi internet access, and/or telephone into one package, for the benefit of the citizens of Beech Grove, IN? Sounds like a good ide to me...

Yet another wonderful idea for the citizens of Beech Grove. I currently have Comcast high-speed internet and love it. High-speed internet is a great thing.

I think it would be nice to have a one package system for residents. I personally am a little tired of being nickel and dimed to death by seperate commercial entities just to be connected to the outside world.

When is this project expected to be completed?

The plan is to have the network up and running by the end of this year. Some areas may be active earlier.

Is anyone interested in participating in a curbside recycling program? If so, I would like to start one.

I am very interested in a curbside recycling program. There doesn't seem to be anywhere in BG to recycle things other than paper.

There WAS a recycle bin at Churchman Plaza, at 321 North Emerson. Since the Krogers has closed down, I don't know if the bins are still there. You could always go to www.in.gov and type in plastic recycling. That will get you to the "Recycle Indiana web page. From there they explain how & why about setting up a recycle program. If the Churchman Plaza bins aren't there, maybe BETTER BRIGHTER, etc, etc could install the bins.

Although I really have no idea what recycling has to do with the digital city project, I agree we could use some sort of recycling drop-off facility in the city. I often travel to the Netherlands and they have installed an underground recycling drop of center. Basically, you open what looks like a mailbox and drop in your recyclables. A truck comes along and pulls up this large underground container and empties it. It's much more easy on the eyes than those large unsightly green containers in the grocery store parking lots.

What is the status of this? The last I heard was that it was to be up and running by the end of this year. Well, it's November and I still haven't heard anything. Some details would also be nice, such as 'how much will it cost,' how many email addresses do we get, and 'can we have multiple computers on-line at the same time?'

I too would like to know more about the status of the Digital City project. How about an update Mayor? Anyone?

Nothing to update since November? Why is the city paying for this site if you don't use it?

This is ridiculous. This website still says:

"This means that we will test it out and ensure that it works! We can then fix problems and get input on how to improve the system before we provide it to the whole city.
City-wide construction of the wireless broadband system is scheduled for completion by July 2007!"

This is 2009 folks, if your webmaster can't be bothered to keep this site up to date, I suggest you fire them and hire someone who can keep the citizens of BG informed.

BG is telling everyone that we want to be this forward thinking, innovative "Digital City", yet they look at this website, and see incredibly out-dated information. What kind of impression does that leave of our city?

As a citizen of BG, I am very concerned and disappointed with several things. First thing, the hornets net is still not up and running, we were all told that it would be available this time last year. This is a disgrace.

Secondly, this site has not been updated in a very long time, yet another waste!

Thirdly, the video on the homepage showing what Main Street looks like or is to look like is nothing close to the truth.

As a community member, all I see is big dreams by our leadership and no follow through. I am very displeased!

Almost THREE yeas ago you told us this would be up and running. THREE years Mayor!

Rumors abound that the Digital City infrastructure will be abandoned, and the equipment sold.

What is the REAL status of this "project"? We demand to know the truth!
