Emerson Avenue Gateway
The Emerson Avenue Project will create a beautiful gateway and dramatic first impression of our city. Each time someone drives into Beech Grove on Emerson Avenue, they will immediately get the feeling that Beech Grove is a great place in which to live and work.
Emerson Avenue will be the beginning of a new life for Main Street.

Can't wait! Emerson Avenue (and that awful wall) have been an eyesore for too long!
THIS PROJECT IS AMAZING! I LOVE BEECH GROVE, AND I HOPE THIS TRANSFORMATION WILL GIVE RESIDENTS A GREATER FEELING OF LIVING IN A "GREAT LITTLE TOWN"
How about a Starbucks coffe shop or something similar at the corner of 1st (yes, 1st instead of Emerson) and Main? The traffice in & out will be very beneficial...
Actually, a smaller, locally owned coffee shop would be wonderful. The Lucky Bean is definitely missed.
I miss both Coffee Shops that were on Main St. There wasn't enough traffic and local support to keep them going but that is all going to change with Emerson Ave and Main St. projects.
i'm all for the emerson ave. project, i only wish the workers would spray the dust off of the street from time to time, the dust pollutants throughout the air have been terrible!
How about a KFC at Emerson and main. That should help also. or maybe a Wendy's. Any Thing would be better than a car lot.
Fortunately or unfortunately, governments can have little control over having particular businesses open at specific locations. Instead of worring about luring new businesses to locations that already have locally-owned businesses in operation, how about worrying about the nearly empty strip mall at Churchman and Emerson. Unless some viable businesses move into this area, this will soon become an unsightly blighted area.
Exactly the point I was about to make. I think the best thing that can happen to a "smaller" town is keep, invest in, and attract locally-owned business. The last thing any area needs is another fast food chain restaurant.
Again, a movie-house, and/or a live entertainment venue would be great at Emerson & Churchman. You have a major thoroughfare going right past (Emerson) that can bring people from the south and north side of the county (and beyond). You also have one of the biggest streets in Beech Grove, Churchman/13th/Churchman Avenue. They both converge right there. Need I say that the IndyGo bus has a stop right there? Something to chew on...
yes lets make everyone move off of first street even when they have lived there for 45 years!! i think its wrong and its not a plus for beech grove to do this to people.
I agree with John C. I think a live entertainment venue at Emerson and Churchman would be a great addition to the area. If done correctly, it could also provide a safe place for local teens to visit. I'm sure the now-empty Kroger at that corner could be converted into such a place at a relatively small cost. Feature local live bands in an under-21 environment, the occasional regional band, etc.
During the day, the venue could be used for community education.
This would turn a potential blighted strip mall into a center for community good, and a destination for people for miles around. I don't see a downside.

With the idea of a theater, maybe something like enticing Key Cinemas to relocate would be a possibility. At least it would be a locally owned venue, plus since he's adding ice cream and a deli, seems like a good fit for the Churchman Plaza area. Maybe even main st., but with an art theater main st. might not be the best option...plus churchman plaza has pretty good highway access and visibility.
I can not beilieve you people dont care they are trying to run people out of thier homes for this. sad very sad. pathetic actually. i think business would be good for beech grove. i dont think trying to be underhanded like the mayor is trying to be and trying to kick people out of thier homes when they have lived there for 45 years. you want the land be a man and say something not try to take it from people. i think we need a new mayor around here if you ask me!
Beech Grove deserves this! We lived in the area some 20+ years ago and enjoyed the downtown area very much. Beech Grove has not lost anything that it can't regain over time.
Downtown (BG) shopping could be as of an nice areas as Broad Ripple, etc - without there being the nightlife. Shops, Food, Services, I can see that it will all be back. Maybe not the Ben Franklin - which I loved - but it will be bigger and better, you watch and see! My sincerest hope is that it continues to remain the Beech Grove that we know and love!

I just wanted to say I just found the Colts logos in the towers this past weekend and my wife and I love them. These towers are already being used to show the city's support and spirit and it is nice to finally see something on Emerson that is fun and makes people smile.
Nothing to update here either? Carmel of the southside indeed.
